Some people may know it; some people may not realize it.
Most of us feel that life is anything but balance.
While we are in college or are singles, life is structured and busy but are still manageable.
After we start our families and careers, the situations become more chaotic.
It is a daily challenge to find balance in life from the demand of families and work.
The situations are worse for 2 income families.
After I have joined the blogging world about a year ago, there are so many thing to learn:
building a blog, finding a niche, doing content, marketing, etc.
I was so overwhelmed by all the information about blogging.
It is an understatement for me.
I was so overwhelmed that I was frozen and just stood still.
It is a very bad feeling that I was busy but my production was low.
I was achieving nothing from all the energy and time that I spent daily.
After I had done the research and implement some of the ways for a few months,
It is achievable by making choices and following discipline strategy.
To have balance in the blogging world is not easy without discipline
The book of 4-hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss and other related articles gave me the workable strategy.
7 Ways to Help You to Have Life in Balance
Scheduling Vs to-do-list
Following the experts’ advice, I incorporated scheduling into my daily tasks.
I found out scheduling did not help me at all.
I was still so busy but accomplished nothing.
In his book, Timothy Ferriss indicated that my mistake was I treated scheduling and to-do-list as the same thing.
Scheduling requires two things: priority and planning.
In prioritizing the tasks, the tasks are divided into important tasks and urgent tasks.
The important tasks are the ones which move you toward your goal.
The urgent tasks are tasks to fulfill other people requests.
The important tasks are handled first.
Never schedule more than 2 important tasks in each day.
You should delete as many urgent tasks as possible without mercy
Planning acts like GPS of daily activities for business and family.
Without planning, you really can waste a lot of time.
Lastly, you don’t call off your day until all tasks are finished.
Scheduling can beat procrastination.
Scheduling can increase your productivity and reduce the degree of busy.
Until you really know how to be good to or take care yourself, you will not have energy to complete the daily tasks.
Self-love is not selfish; it is essential to have your desire.
Murielle Marie (from MurielleMarie.com) explains as follow
“I would say that my #1 tip to create balance in the busy world we live in, is to learn to love yourself. By loving yourself – really loving yourself – you start to listen to your body and your soul in a profound and very compassionate way. As a result, when you get out of balance, the act of taking care of yourself and returning to a place of balance is so much easier.”
The theory is so simple.
You must take care yourself and your needs first so that you can meet the needs of your family and others around you.
If you don’t make time to take care of yourself, you’ll burn out, and you’ll let down all the most important people in your life.
That energy can be generated for you by honoring that “me” times.
Schedule “me” times as non-negotiable appointments on the calendar.
What are those “me” times? They are the space and time for yourself.
They are the exercise and meditate sections.
Never skip the exercise and meditate sections even on that day with the heavy load.
They increase your efficient for the rest of the day.
Your thinking will be more clarified.
More profound ideas will be formed.
They are small breaks throughout the day.
Schedule them in the calendar.
Step away from computer for 10 mins after 50 min of work.
Three areas, which waste so much of our time, are paper works, email (or voice mail), and projects.
Before we are talking about de-clutter them, you have to learn the art of not bringing more of them into your life.
In order not to be overloaded by projects, take the challenge to say “no” to every request until it is “life and death” issue.
Don’t give your time away so easily.
One more thing about projects, you must learn the art of “let go”.
Even you had spent long times on the project, you must not hesitate to stop in the middle for the worthless project.
That is where 80/20 rule coming in.
Focus the projects which drives the greatest results and ignore the rest.
For paper works and emails, you unsubscribe as many as possible and you must not response to any more advertisements.
From now on, every time you receive incoming paper works, letters, and e-mails, you will have the intention to handle each of them only ONE TIME.
For the existing paper works, your work is to organize and reduce them mercilessly.
For each e-mail, use the button “delete” until they are absolutely important.
Stop Doing Multi-tasks
Multitasking is sure the killer of efficient.
I admit I was the expert in the multitasking.
I worked hard and busy but with low productivity.
Complete one task before move onto the next one.
Delegate Your Works
As you know, each of us has certain skills (gift) and limitations.
Instead of spending 10 hours to learn particular skill to solve one problem,
let other people finish it for you in an hour (depend on the budget).
If there are so many projects in your hands, don’t be afraid to outsource some of the projects.
Let go of your ego and controlling nature to complete the tasks on time by outsourcing.
Come Home for Family time
Set a time daily for connection and communication with your spouse and kids.
Dinners, evenings, and weekends are only spent with your love ones.
There always more should be done.
You treat the family time as sacred event as possible.
At the end of each day, this is the reason we work hard to have
a harmonic and peaceful home to come back to.
A Day off in a Week
Your body needs this “rest” to regenerate the energy that was depleted during last few days.
This “rest” gives you the chance to refresh your soul, spirit, and mind.
You will have energy and clarity to embrace the tasks of coming week.
Learn to appreciate what your accomplishment during last week.
Learn to expect goodness, blessing, and favor pouring in for the next week.
When everything turns into chaos, don’t be hesitate to isolate yourself from all to get clarity.
“Sometimes, what I need to do is:
fly away and get lost”
My Final Thoughts
Life with balance means to use less time to accomplish more by reducing the non-productive activities.
We cannot control what is ahead of us.
When we consistently incorporate these principles into our life,
we can regain our well-being faster and return to a state of balance.
It boils down to your ability in the time management of the family and work life.
In addition, Life is about doing the things that make you happy.
Make sure you know what they are.
